Hyderabad, March 9 -- The Drugs Control Administration Telangana has launched a Bulk SMS Alert System to notify medical shops across the state about drugs found to be Not of Standard Quality (NSQ), commonly known as substandard drugs.

The digital initiative, launched on Monday, will send instant alerts to retail pharmacies and wholesalers whenever drugs are declared substandard by the Drugs Control Laboratory Hyderabad. The alerts will enable medical shops to immediately stop the sale and distribution of such medicines and facilitate their quick recall from the market.

According to officials, NSQ drugs are those that fail quality tests such as assay, disintegration and dissolution, which may make them ineffective in treating diseases.
