Hyderabad, April 28 -- The Telangana Civil Supplies Department has ramped up petroleum supplies across the State by 126 per cent since Sunday to ensure uninterrupted availability of fuel amid a sudden spike in demand.

Civil Supplies Commissioner M Stephen Raveendra said the move was aimed at stabilising fuel stations facing pressure due to unusual consumption patterns triggered by multiple factors.

Officials attributed the surge to bulk buyers sourcing diesel from retail outlets following a steep hike in industrial diesel prices, cross-border demand from neighbouring states such as Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, and panic buying driven by rumours of post-election price increases.
