Hyderabad, July 17 -- Telangana BJP president N Ramachandra Rao has criticised the Congress government for its continued negligence towards farmers' issues despite being in power for the past 19 months.

Speaking at the BJP Kishan Morcha state office bearers meeting held at BJP State office in Hyderabad on Thursday, Rao said that it is unfortunate that only with the impending local body elections has the government started speaking about farmer welfare.

He pointed out that promises made in the Congress election manifesto, especially the "Farmer Assurance" scheme, remain largely unfulfilled.
