Hyderabad, Sept. 1 -- Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Tuesday said the state government had taken several measures to strengthen the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) and improve public transport during its 1,000 days in office.
Addressing a press conference at Bus Bhavan here, Prabhakar said the Mahalakshmi free bus travel scheme for women was launched within 48 hours of the government assuming office. Since its launch, women had made around 347.36 crore trips under the scheme, availing travel benefits worth Rs 12,167 crore.
The scheme had also helped raise RTC's occupancy rate from 67 per cent to over 89 per cent, he said.
