Hyderabad, Sept. 21 -- Senior Congress leader and former union Minister Chinta Mohan on Monday expressed concern over what he described as a decline in press freedom in the country and alleged that corporate ownership had weakened media independence.
Addressing the media at the Press Club in Somajiguda here, Mr Chinta Mohan said a free press is essential for a healthy democracy and described it as one of the important pillars of the democratic system.
He alleged that press freedom had declined considerably compared to the situation two decades ago. Corporate entities had acquired significant control over the media, resulting in journalists having less freedom to express their views, he alleged.
