Hyderabad, April 29 -- Paddy procurement is progressing rapidly across Telangana, with the Agriculture Department setting a target of procuring 90 lakh metric tonnes during the current Yasangi (Rabi) season.
Officials estimate the total paddy production at around 141 lakh metric tonnes. To ensure smooth procurement without inconvenience to farmers, the government has increased the number of procurement centres compared to last year. Out of the proposed 8,525 centres, more than 6,500 are already operational.
Of these, 2,623 centres are run under IKP, 3,278 by cooperative societies, and 353 by other organisations. Nearly 43,000 personnel have been deployed across districts to manage procurement activities.
