Hyderabad, May 22 -- Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) has achieved a rare milestone by becoming the first government hospital in the country to successfully perform 2,000 kidney transplants, marking a significant achievement in public healthcare.

Announcing the accomplishment on Friday, NIMS Director Dr Beerappa said the hospital performed its first kidney transplant in 1989 and has now successfully completed its 2,000th transplant surgery.

He attributed the achievement to the dedicated efforts and exceptional performance of the doctors and staff of the Urology and Nephrology departments.
