Hyderabad, Feb. 27 -- Telangana Jagruti President Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Friday met Telangana Farmers' Commission Chairman Kodanda Reddy and its members at BRK Bhavan and highlighted the problems faced by farmers engaged in seed cultivation across the State.
Kavitha said farmers cultivating nearly 60 varieties of seeds are working to make Telangana the "Seed Bowl of India," but are being denied rights guaranteed under the Contract Farming Act, 2007. She alleged that the Act was not being implemented in farmers' interest, with seed cotton farmers being forced to mortgage their lands for advances and pesticide costs, while officials failed to support them.
