Hyderabad, July 24 -- Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Friday said taxpayers are the backbone of India's development and described tax payment as a significant contribution towards nation-building rather than merely a legal obligation.
Addressing the 167th Income Tax Day celebrations as the chief guest here, the Governor said honest taxpayers were the "silent architects" of India's progress and highlighted the role of taxation in supporting infrastructure development, national security and welfare programmes.
Shukla said India's tradition has always viewed taxation from a scientific and welfare-oriented perspective, where revenue collected from citizens is utilised for the benefit of society.
