New Delhi, Sept. 25 -- The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Goa government on a petition filed by former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal challenging the Bombay High Court judgment sentencing him to 10 years' imprisonment in a 2013 rape case involving a colleague.
A bench comprising Justices MM Sundresh and Prasanna B Varale heard the matter.
Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Tejpal, submitted that the High Court had reversed his acquittal. "This is a case of reversal; there is a right of appeal; I have surrendered," Sibal said.
Sibal sought a specific date for hearing Tejpal's plea for suspension of sentence, after the Supreme Court agreed to issue notice to Goa. The bench said it would consider the request.
