London, Aug. 1 -- A tanker was struck off the Oman coast near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, according to an incident report issued by the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
The Royal Navy-backed maritime monitor said the vessel was hit by an "unknown projectile", causing damage to its engine room. The tanker, which was not identified, was approximately 20km northeast of Lima, Oman, on the southern side of the strategic waterway.
The vessel was left not under command following the incident, though no casualties were reported. UKMTO did not identify who was responsible for the attack.
