Hyderabad, Aug. 23 -- Eminent journalist and The Hindu Group Director, N Ram, today called for stronger self-regulation in the media, saying regulatory bodies should comprise journalists and eminent media personalities rather than serving editors or media owners.
Speaking at a panel discussion at the National Conclave of the Federation of Press Clubs here, Ram said journalism must return to its fundamentals of ground reporting, investigative journalism, long-form writing and explanatory reporting to rebuild public trust.
He called for transparent codes of conduct for journalists and suggested that professional standards should have legislative backing through laws enacted by Parliament.
