Kolkata, May 13 -- Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's footsteps, the first BJP Chief Minister in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, bowed down before the staircase of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly moments before entering the House on Wednesday morning.

Adhikari's gesture drew immediate parallels with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had similarly bowed before the Parliament building in New Delhi after becoming Prime Minister in 2014.

Modi had then described Parliament as a "temple of democracy", and Adhikari's act on Wednesday appeared to mirror that symbolism in Bengal's political landscape.
