Kolkata, May 8 -- The gutsy Suvendu Adhikari. who defeated Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee in two consecutive Assembly polls five years apart, is set to take over as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal after his unanimous election as the BJP legislature party leader in the state on Friday.

Adhikari, who served as the Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing Assembly, was elected leader during a meeting of the BJP legislature party at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town on the north eastern fringes of the city, union Home Minister Amit Shah announced.
