Hazaribag, May 27 -- Three members of a family, including a woman and her son, died while another family member was injured after allegedly inhaling toxic gas from an underground tank reportedly used for storing mahua for illicit liquor production in Hazaribag district of Jharkhand on Wednesday, police said.

The incident occurred in Kud village under Katkamdag police station area. The deceased were identified as Chameli Devi, Madan Sao and Ravi Sahu, while Anand Sao, husband of Chameli Devi, is undergoing treatment at Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital.

According to local residents, mahua kept inside the underground storage tank had generated toxic gas after the structure remained sealed for a prolonged period.
