Gadchiroli, Oct. 26 -- Days after the dramatic surrender of senior Naxal leaders Bhupati and Rupesh along with 270 cadres in this district of Maharashtra and neighbouring Chhattisgarh, the Maoist organisation branded them "traitors" .
Responding to the allegation, Rupesh has released a video statement claiming that it was the organisation's own leadership that betrayed its members.
Rupesh asserted that the decision to surrender was neither impulsive nor influenced by the police. He said the move stemmed from discussions initiated by the late CPI (Maoist) general secretary Basavaraju (B.R. Dada), who before his death in May 2025 had called for halting armed operations and opening peace talks with the government.
