Ravi SarafNew Delhi, Sept. 11 -- Congress general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala on Friday attacked the BJP government over the alleged sealing of more than 50 shops in Kucha Mahajani market in Delhi's Chandni Chowk, saying the action would further hurt traders and artisans already reeling under a slowdown in the gems and jewellery sector.

Surjewala said more than 3.5 crore goldsmiths, jewellers, traders, shopkeepers and artisans across the country were facing the "brunt of BJP-led destruction". He claimed the jewellery industry is already in crisis due to the economic slowdown and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeals on two occasions in the past four months urging people not to buy gold.
