Pune, Jan. 6 -- union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Kalmadi, who served as a union Minister during the Congress-led government and earned significant recognition as an Administrator in Indian sports passed away at a private hospital in the city on Tuesday.

He was 81. Kalmadi is survived by his wife, two daughters, son, and grandchildren. He was a former Pune MP. Kalmadi was a minister in the Narasimha Rao government during 1995-96 and presented the Railway Budget while serving as Minister of State for Railways, according to his official website.
