Hyderabad, May 20 -- Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court's verdict supporting the inclusion of caste enumeration in the general census and termed it a major step towards strengthening social justice in the country.
In a statement, expressing happiness over the court's decision, the minister said the Telangana government had already conducted a caste census and was implementing welfare measures based on the principle of ensuring benefits "to each person according to their due."Ponnam Prabhakar recalled that Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi had demanded a nationwide caste census on the lines of the Telangana model.
