New Delhi, Aug. 25 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea challenging the Allahabad High Court's direction to issue demolition notices to lawyers' chambers allegedly built on encroached public land near the Lucknow District Court.
A Bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta refused to interfere, observing that unauthorised constructions cannot be protected merely because lawyers occupy them.
Justice Nath observed that if court premises themselves were encroached upon, the question arose as to who would be responsible for their protection.
