New Delhi, July 10 -- Within a span of two days, the Supreme Court has sharply criticised the governments of Punjab and Maharashtra for opposing bail pleas while failing to ensure the timely completion of criminal trials.
On Friday, a partial Court working days bench of Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Sheel Nagu criticised the Maharashtra government for opposing bail despite the prolonged delay in concluding the trial.
The judges noted that the accused had been in custody for over four years, while only two of the 45 prosecution witnesses listed in the chargesheet had been examined.
The observations came in the case of Kelvin Chindozie Okoro, a foreign national arrested by the Maharashtra Police in connection with a 2022 murder case.
