Islamabad, Sept. 26 -- At least 12 people were killed and 35 others injured on Saturday when a vehicle laden with explosives was rammed into a police checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan in northwestern Pakistan. Separately, two rescue workers were killed when an ambulance transporting the bodies of the blast victims came under fire.
The attack involved an explosives-laden vehicle at the checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to Bilal Faizi, a spokesman for the provincial emergency service, Dawn reported.
The deceased comprised nine men, two women and a minor.
According to police and Rescue 1122 officials, an unidentified attacker rammed the explosives-laden tractor trolley into the checkpost.
