Lucknow, Nov. 4 -- The sugarcane crushing season began in Uttar Pradesh from today with state Sugarcane Development Minister Laxmi Narain Choudhary saying that crushing work has started in 21 mills of the state, including one belonging to a cooperative and 20 to private companies.
He said the state's 53 sugar mills have already issued indents for sugarcane purchases.
Narain said among the sugar mills operating in the state, 5 of 19 units of Saharanpur region, 8 of 16 from Meerut region, two of 23 of Moradabad region and six of 19 of Lucknow region have started crushing work.
