Khartoum, Aug. 15 -- Sudan's army remains committed to defeating the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), but is prepared to consider genuine peace initiatives, Sovereignty Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said, while ruling out any settlement that would allow the RSF or its leaders to return to power.
Speaking on Friday on the 72nd anniversary of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Burhan said the military's determination to defeat the RSF did not mean it was ignoring efforts to end the conflict.
"Our determination to fight and defeat this militia does not mean turning a blind eye to any genuine initiative for peace," Burhan said, according to state news agency SUNA.
