Patna, May 3 -- The district administration in Patna has intensified its crackdown on overloading and illegal operation of boats in rivers, directing strict action against violators of safety norms.
A few days back, a cruise boat had capsized in Jabalapur, Madhya Pradesh, claiming several lives. There are allegations that basic safety norms were not followed, and passengers were left to fend for themselves in the middle of a violent storm.
Taking cognizance of the issue, District Magistrate Thyagarajan S M Sunday instructed all Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) and Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) to take stringent action against boat operators found violating prescribed standards.
