Stock markets end lower in rangebound session, Nifty settles around 24,200 mark

New Delhi, Aug. 26 -- Stock Markets failed to build on last session gains and ended lower in a range-bound session with the Nifty settling around the 24,200 mark.

At close, the Sensex was down 183.15 points or 0.24 percent at 77,472.94, and the Nifty was down 126.80 points or 0.52 percent at 24,207.75. Nifty Midcap ended marginally lower, while smallcap index gaining 0.8 percent.

Among the sectors, metal and private bank indices rose 1pc each, and PSU Bank index added 0.7pc. On the other hand, IT and Infra indices shed 1pc each, auto, consumer durables, Energy, FMCG, oil & gas, realty down 0.5-0.9pc.

On Nifty, the gainers were Kotak Mahindra Bank, UltraTech Cement, Axis Bank, HDFC Life, JSW Steel. On the losing end were Infosys, Power Gr...
