New Delhi, Oct. 9 -- Indian Stock Markets recovered today, with Sensex jumping over 700 points and Nifty by 270 points led by IT sectoral gains and buoyant investor sentiment amidst easing of geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

At close, the BSE Sensex jumped 879 points, or 1.23 per cent, to 72,472 and the NSE Nifty gained 289 points, or 1.30 per cent, to 22,520. Nearly 2,419 shares advanced while 1,780 declined.

Among the sectors, IT led sectoral gains with a 3.02 per cent surge. FMCG rose 2.14 per cent and PSU Banks gained 1.63 per cent. Nifty Oil & Gas index declined 0.14 per cent, while Energy rose 0.72 per cent.

In the banking and financial, Nifty PSU Bank index gained 1.62 per cent, while Bank Nifty rose 1.33 per cent to 55,237.95....
