New Delhi, Aug. 20 -- India's stock market investor base has expanded sharply over the past seven years, with the number of registered investors rising nearly fivefold to 13.37 crore by July 2026 from 2.75 crore in FY2019.
The latest data from the National Stock Exchange's August edition of Market Pulse shows that equity market participation is becoming more geographically broad-based, with northern and eastern states accounting for a growing share of investors.
Maharashtra continues to have the largest investor base, with 2.07 crore registered investors, equivalent to 15.5pc of the national total. Uttar Pradesh was next with 1.59 crore investors, or 11.9pc, followed by Gujarat with 1.13 crore, or 8.5pc.
