Patna, July 4 -- Defending the state government''s decision to levy a toll on state highways, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav on Friday said the move is aimed at generating resources for the maintenance and upkeep of road infrastructure.

Yadav told news persons here that just as a toll is collected on national highways, the Bihar government has decided to introduce a similar system on state highways to ensure sustained funding for road maintenance.
