Bengaluru, Nov. 9 -- Former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai today said that the state government has full authority under the State Advised Price (SAP) Act to fix sugarcane prices, a power which, if exercised, could bring a fair and lawful resolution to the ongoing price dispute.

In a statement on X, Bommai recalled that the BJP government had enacted the SAP law to ensure fair pricing for sugarcane. The law empowers the state government to determine the price based on factors such as cultivation costs, sugar production, by-products, market price, and profit-sharing between farmers and factory owners.
