Chennai, Jan. 19 -- In an initiative aimed at augmenting the drinking water source for Chennai city, Tamil Nadu Chief MinisterM.K. Stalin on Monday laid the foundation stone for a new reservoir, named "Mamallan" near Thiruporur to be built at a cost ofRs 342.60 crore in the Kovalam basin.
Mr Stalin, pointing out the historical significance in naming at as 'Mamallan', said since the new water resource was situated at Mamallapuram ruled by Pallava King Narasimhavarman-I (known as Mamallan--great wrestler) from 630 to 668, the new reservoirwas christened as Mamallan as the UNESCO Heritage site of Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram) was founded by him named in hishonour.
This will the Chennai's sixth reservoir adding to drinking water sources of Poo...
