Chennai, April 29 -- The Chennai Division of Southern Railway has achieved a key milestones in freight performance during the 2025-26 fiscal, registering a total freight revenue of Rs 1,289.78 crore and introducing several new streams of traffic.
During the year, the Division handled steel pipe movement for the first time from Chennai Harbour (Jawahar Dock) to Ponmalai(Golden Rock - Boiler Plant), marking a significant addition to its freight basket.
In a step towards promoting green logistics, it commenced transportation of electric automobiles when Montra Electric autos weremoved from Tada to Rangapani, while Mahindra Electric autos were transported from Jolarpettai to Salchapra and Jirania stationsunder Northeast Frontier Railway.
