Srinagar, June 29 -- Kashmir reeled under intense heat on Monday as Srinagar recorded the season's highest maximum temperature of 35.3degC, which is 5.3degC above normal, according to official data.

The summer capital witnessed its hottest day of the season so far, coming close to last year's peak maximum temperature of 35.5degC.

Other parts of the Valley also experienced significantly above-normal temperatures. Qazigund- the gateway town of Kashmir- recorded 33.8degC, which was 5.0degC above normal, while Kokernag in south Kashmir registered 32.9degC, also 5.0degC above normal.
