Colombo, Aug. 26 -- Sri Lanka erased India's imposing 213-run first-innings lead but lost three crucial wickets in a late Indian fightback before rain forced an early close, leaving India firmly in control of the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club here on Wednesday.
Sri Lanka, forced to follow on by India after being bowled out for 290 in their first innings, reached 229 for six in 72.4 overs in their second essay to take a 16-run lead. Rain then stopped play at 1637 local time, preventing any further play.
Sonal Dinusha was unbeaten on seven and K Nuwantha on three when play was called off, leaving India needing only four wickets to wrap up the innings and set up a modest fourth-innings chase.
