Mathura, March 1 -- The joy of Phalgun has reached its peak in Braj. After the Lath Maar Holi of Barsana and Nandgaon, the colours of devotion flowed into Gokul, the childhood abode of Lord Krishna.

On Sunday, the world famous Chhadi Maar Holi was celebrated in the narrow streets of Gokul. Unlike the vigorous Lath Maar tradition, Holi here was played with soft sticks, symbolising the affection of Mother Yashoda and the pure love of the Gopis.

The festival began at the historic Nand Bhawan, the palace of Nand Baba. Thakur Ji was seated in a grand palanquin. As it moved out to the beats of drums and chants of "Nand ke Anand Bhayo, Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki", the entire town broke into celebration.
