Srinagar, July 20 -- The Special Crime Wing (Kashmir) of the Crime Branch, J&K, on Monday conducted searches at multiple locations in Srinagar and Ganderbal districts in connection with an alleged extortion racket that duped a senior citizen of over Rs 30 lakh.

Officials said the searches were carried out in connection with FIR No. 18/2026 registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to the Crime Branch, the accused were part of an organised gang that allegedly impersonated officials of the Crime Branch and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
