Lucknow, May 31 -- The principal opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress, which are set to enter a pre-poll alliance similar to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, are engaged in tough negotiations over seat-sharing for Mission 2027.

After their unexpected success in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, both parties are reassessing their relative strengths. While the Congress's ambitions have been boosted by the Lok Sabha results, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has signalled a far tougher stance on seat distribution this time around.

The SP is likely to allot the Congress at least 25 fewer seats than it did in the 2017 Assembly elections, according to indications from a senior party leader.
