Lucknow, July 18 -- The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led central government over the alleged removal of environmental activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk from his hunger strike site in Delhi, calling it an assault on democratic rights.
The party said the action against Wangchuk, who was undertaking a hunger strike to press for his demands, was "deeply shameful and disturbing" and alleged that the government was attempting to silence voices of dissent.
The party termed it a violation of democratic rights and said that an attempt is being made to weaken democracy in the country.
