Seoul, Aug. 2 -- South Korea's 3,100-ton frigate ROKS Daejeon has won the top honour in a live-fire gunnery competition at this year's Rim of the Pacific (Rimpac) exercise, marking the country's first victory in the event in 16 years.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the frigate scored the highest among 13 warships from 10 countries that participated in the naval surface fire support rodeo competition held in Hawaii last month, the South Korean Navy said on Sunday.
The achievement marks the first time since 2010 that a South Korean warship has claimed the top prize, when the ROKS King Sejong the Great destroyer won the competition.
