Bhagalpur, Aug. 18 -- Bihar Energy Minister Shailesh Kumar alias Bulo Mandal has said solar energy is not only environmentally friendly but also an effective means of reducing electricity expenses for ordinary consumers.
Mandal said here on Tuesday that the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is an important initiative of both the Centre and the state government. The scheme aims to provide relief to households from rising electricity costs while promoting the use of solar energy.
The minister said domestic consumers installing solar panels under the scheme can receive a subsidy of up to Rs 78,000 from the Centre and Rs 20,000 from the Bihar government for systems up to three kilowatts, taking the total subsidy to Rs 98,000.
