Dhaka, Nov. 21 -- Multiple power plants in Bangladesh have tripped, following the 5.7 magnitude earthquake which struck the country on Friday morning, causing major disruptions in power supply across the country.
Six power plants tripped simultaneously, resulting in a national energy crisis, with an estimated 1,100 megawatts (MW) of electricity going off the grid.
The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) said it was working round the clock to restore power "as soon as possible," adding that it had already managed to bring back over 200-250MW online by the afternoon, with further recovery expected later.
