Banjarmasin (Indonesia), Sept. 13 -- At least six people have died and 130 remain missing after an Indonesian passenger ferry sank in the Java Sea following bad weather, while 107 people have been rescued, the country's search and rescue agency said on Sunday.

The Virgo Transport 8, carrying 243 people, including 213 passengers and 30 crew members, was travelling from Surabaya in East Java to Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan when it lost contact with authorities early on Sunday.

The vessel was last reported to be around 150 km (93 miles) south of Banjarmasin at about 2:00 am local time on Sunday (1800 GMT on Saturday), according to authorities.
