Lucknow, July 17 -- The three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Uttar Pradesh government to probe the alleged theft and embezzlement of offerings from devotees at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has sought additional time to complete its investigation, government sources said here on Friday.

According to a senior official, the SIT is expected to submit its interim status report directly to the court on Monday in compliance with the Supreme Court's directives. It will also request the state government to extend the investigation period to file its final report.
