Kolkta, Feb. 24 -- Ahead of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections the political temperature over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has risen sharply, with former Chief Secretary Manoj Pant at the centre of a fresh controversy.

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar on Tuesday demanded the registration of an FIR and sought the arrest of Pant, questioning his presence at a high-level meeting convened at the Calcutta High Court. Alleging a violation of directions issued by the Supreme Court of India, Majumdar claimed that the apex court had clearly specified who was authorised to attend such meetings concerning the SIR process.
