Indian Wells, March 11 -- World No. 2 Jannik Sinner overcame a fierce challenge from rising Brazilian star Joao Fonseca to reach the quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Open with a 7-6(6), 7-6(4) victory in a gripping encounter.

The much-anticipated first meeting between the two young talents lived up to expectations in front of a packed crowd at Indian Wells Tennis Garden, with Sinner prevailing in key moments to secure his third quarterfinal appearance at the tournament, as per the ATP Tour website.

Sinner saved three set points in the opening-set tie-break and later recovered after failing to close out the match at 5-2 in the second set before finishing strongly in another tie-break to seal the win.
