Bengaluru, March 4 -- Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu recounted the "terrifying" experience of being stranded in Dubai amid the escalating Iran-Israel conflict, saying safety ultimately took precedence over her participation in the prestigious All England Open Badminton Championships.

Sindhu said she landed in Dubai on February 28 at around 1:00 pm en route to Ireland, but within minutes flights were suspended and airspace was shut following rising tensions in the region.

"A lot of media people were texting and asking if I was safe. It was really nice of them to check on me," she said, adding that the situation at the airport quickly turned chaotic.
