Gangtok, Aug. 27 -- The Sikkim government has initiated the process of preparing a comprehensive, micro-level conservation plan for the Ratey Chu watershed, the principal source of drinking water for Gangtok town, Chief Secretary R. Telang said on Thursday.

The objective of the proposed conservation plan is to protect and strengthen the watershed for long-term sustainability and security of drinking water supply to Gangtok. The plan will focus on addressing watershed-related challenges through scientific assessment, field-level interventions and coordinated management.
