Siliguri, July 29 -- In a Himalayan state where earthquakes, landslides and flash floods remain constant risks, the Sikkim government has launched a unique initiative to make disaster preparedness a part of every child's learning.

The Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA), in collaboration with district administrations, has started district-level orientation programmes for its "Friday Safety Five - 5 Minutes Every Friday, Safety for Life" campaign. The programme aims to prepare teachers and Anganwadi workers to conduct a five-minute safety session every Friday in schools and Anganwadi centres across the state.
