Hamirpur, July 3 -- The National Cancer Control Programme - Advisor Dr Naresh Purohit today said that Himachal Pradesh (HP) is witnessing a significant surge in cancer cases in urban, rural and semi-urban areas.
The annual growth rate of cancer cases in the hill state has reached 2.2 per cent, far exceeding the national growth rate of 0.6 per cent. This trend is particularly disturbing, given the state's low level of industrialisation and relatively clean surroundings.
