Chennai, July 14 -- With several coastal districts of Tamil Nadu including the Chennai and its neighbouring districts reeling under scorching heat due to spike in the mercury level by a couple of notches during the last few days, Madurai airport recorded perhaps India's highest day temperature of 108.5 Deg F on Tuesday, as similar pattern was expected to continue for the next few days.

It turned out to be a scorcher Tuesday as close to 18 districts in the state recorded temperatures in excess of 100 Deg F, including Chennai city and its neighbouring districts, causing much discomfort to the people.
